History
If you wish to dive into history, Paestum is a must-see place. In Paestum, you can admire the well-preserved majestic Greek temples, dedicated to Neptune and Athena, in the monumental complex of the National Archaeological Museum. Another place of great interest is Velia, an ancient Greek colony, which offers a fascinating view of the ancient Thermal Baths, the Agora and the Acropolis.
But the Cilento is not just archaeology and beaches. There are many other hidden gems to explore, such as Roscigno Vecchia and San Severino di Centola, with their abandoned villages that tell stories of a bygone era.
Nature
Palinuro, one of the gems of the Cilento Coast, captivates with its sea caves (famous is the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto)), which can be visited with a boat tour, and white sandy beaches. The Buon Dormire bay is one of the most famous, while Palinuro's historic center features the impressive Rinaldi baronial palace and the Antiquarium, which exhibits artifacts from an ancient necropolis dating back to the 6th century BC.
And then there are the Bussento Caves, in Morigerati, which offer the chance to immerse yourself in the unspoiled nature and historical charm of Cilento. Exploring the river waters and learning about the history of the Mill inside the WWF Oasis, where wheat was once milled, is a true journey into the past. The walk is 3 km long and is suitable for everyone.
If you love nature, you will be fascinated by the Valley of the Orchids, the crown jewel of the Cilento National Park, which offers a unique show in May, when thousands of orchids in bloom color the landscape.
